New York is preparing to introduce one of the largest urban textile recycling schemes from September, with the aim of letting

Statistics show that every American probably throw away 10 pounds of socks, shirts, jeans and sheets every year.
In New York, about 190000 tons of textiles were thrown away in 2008.
According to the plan, New York will place 50 recycling bins in the high flow area and sign a 10-15 year contract with a non profit making company. They will be responsible for these urban recycling bins.
Goodwill Industries International is one of the companies that sign the tender.

Robert Lange, director of the waste prevention, reuse and recycling Bureau, said throwing clothes is easier than recycling.
All old old smelly shoes and old clothes or sheets can't always be recycled.
But these clothes and sheets can be recovered in many ways.
If this event is successful, this recycling clothing scheme can become national.
Brenda Platt, director of the Institute of local self reliance in Washington, D.C., said the plan would create jobs and clean up some places for national landfills.
She estimated that after the establishment of 20 textile recycling companies, the textile industry created 85 times more jobs than landfills.
